I live in Weston-super-Mare but have spent the past 3 years studying a Business and Sociology Degree at the University of Portsmouth where I graduated with a solid 2:1.
My independent research project involved “Investigating Gender Differences in Educational Achievement” in which I co-ordinated research across several different publications and educational organizations to create a comprehensive dissertation.

During my last year at University I have undertaken 3 projects through the University’s SED (Skills and Experience Development) Scheme which is a work experience programme that offers placements in local organisations.

My first placement was as a Classroom Assistant in a primary school where I implemented a 1-2-1 reading scheme in a deprived school for pupils sitting SAT’s exams. In my second program I worked for the charity RELATE as a Market Researcher whereby I designed, implemented and analyzed a questionnaire about bullying in a local secondary schools.

My latest employment through the SED programme has been as a Marketing Assistant for Hunnyhill Ltd. This project involved me working in partnership with the Director and Graphics Designer to create a new corporate image for the company. This involved designing a new trading name, mission statement, logo, brand, unique selling proposition and marketing plan for Hunnyhill Ltd. I feel this project has allowed me to develop new marketing skills and build on my business competencies. It has been a valuable marketing and work environment experience as I feel I have gained vital business awareness.

After 17 years in education I have decided to take 4 months out to travel New Zealand and South East Asia in September 2006 until January 2007. While in Bangkok I shall spend 2 weeks as a volunteer in a children’s orphanage.

I am a keen volunteer and I am a member of the ‘Millennium Volunteering Network’ and have been awarded 200 hours for my help on projects like Bridgwater Charity Day and ‘Youth for Youth’ Mentoring Schemes where I mentored new students at Bridgwater College.

I would like to take this chance to thank Sheena and Garry for this opportunity!
